Ondansetron orally disintegrating tablets
Product Name: Ondansetron Mouth Dissolving Tablets
Common Name: tablet for vomiting & nausea
Strength: 4mg
Description:
Ondansetron orally disintegrating tablets are a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor blocker. It works by blocking a chemical thought to be a cause of nausea and vomiting in certain situations (eg, chemotherapy). Ondansetron is a highly specific and selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, with low affinity for dopamine receptors. The 5-HT3 receptors are present both peripherally on vagal nerve terminals and centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the area postrema. Serotonin is released by the enterochromaffin cells of the small intestine in response to chemotherapeutic agents and may stimulate vagal afferents (via 5-HT3 receptors) to initiate the vomiting reflex.
Indications and Usage:
This medication is used alone or with other medications to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer drug treatment (chemotherapy) and radiation therapy. It is also used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting after surgery. Ondansetron works by blocking one of the body’s natural substances (serotonin) that causes vomiting. Ondansetron blocks the actions of chemicals in the body that can trigger nausea and vomiting. Ondansetron is not for preventing nausea or vomiting that is caused by factors other than cancer treatment or surgery.
